Grandpa's Delicious Apple Pie Recipe

Mau, Grandpa's sweet tooth started aching but we were all out of ice cream so Grandpa decided to bake some apple pie instead. It is best served warm with some creme anglaise or a scoop of ice cream according to Grandpa.

Grandpa is so kind so he decided to share the recipe with everyone, mjau!

2 dl sugar
4 dl flour
250 g butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Mix flour, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Pour in the melted butter and mix together using a big spoon or spatula. Set aside 2 dl of the dough for later use. You will later use this as a crumble for the pie.

In the remaining pie dough mix the following ingredients.

1 egg
1 dl milk
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Pour the batter in a square pan lined with parchment paper. Peel the apples and cut into about 1x1 cm cubes. Grandpa used three apples that we picked from our garden, you can use more apples if you want, mjau. Spread the apples out evenly over the batter in the pan. Pour the crumble that you set aside earlier over the pie. Bake the pie at 175 degrees Celsius for around 45 minutes or until done.

Mjau, Bon Appétit!

Counter Service Restaurants at Disneyland Paris

Mjau, as promised in our previous post, we have now made a list ranking all the Counter Service Restaurants we have tried at Disneyland Paris. The list will only include the restaurants in the Disneyland Park so we will not include restaurants from the Walt Disney Studios Park. We do however have a secret bonus at the end of the list. It is one of our favourites but can not really be compared to the other options. Mjau, but it still deserves a spot on our list!

This list is based on our own personal opinion. If you do not agree with our ranking you are wrong and need to change your mind, Mjau!

Mjau, on the hunt for some food!

7. Au Chalet de la Marionette

This restaurant is based on the movie Pinocchio and is in Fantasyland right next to the Pinocchio ride.  The Dumbo and Peter Pan ride are also really close by. The options are really simple, you can choose one of the menus that include a beverage, a side dish (french fries or salad) and a dessert. You can choose between a Bavarian hot-dog, roasted chicken or different burgers. You can also order these separately without the menu, as they call a la carte. We had the vegetarian bagel burger. We ordered it a la carte but it still came with french fries. Mjau, we were disappointed with this as we thought it would be a bagel! It was only a regular burger bun with a hole in the middle. Mau! We do not understand why they would call it a bagel! It is a disfigured burger! The veggie patty was really delicious and if the bun was a bagel this would have been a hit! Au Chalet de la Marionette is so low on the list because of the atmosphere and the food options. The theme is okay, really similar layout as Pizzeria Bella Notte. The place is however really loud and stressful, mjau! It is probably because of the good location, it is in the middle of Fantasyland.

6. Pizzeria Bella Notte

This was really close to being last on our list. The theme is not good. If you have a Lady and the Tramp theme you should have more decorations of the stars of the movie, Si and Am. There also is no Disney music! It should play The Siamese Cat Song on repeat, mjau! It is higher on the list because we prefer the more quiet location and because the It's a Small World ride is right outside. Fantasia Gelati is also right next door so Grandpa can get his Ice Cream, mjau! We also really like the pizza here. You can also get pasta or lasagna for the menu or order something from the a la carte list.

The Pizza at Bella Notte is so good!

The chef was strange, mjau! He was stood in the same place the entire time and kept staring at me!

5. Fuente Del Oro Restaurant

This is the first counter service restaurant we went to. Previously we only ate at table service restaurants or buffets. We ate the chicken fajitas that were really good. Unfortunately we do not have pictures, mjau. Here you can definately get a filling meal but as the Big Thunder Mountain is right opposite the restaurant the atmosphere is a bit stressful and busy. The theme is not really anything extra. However as the food options are unique it is higher on the list than the other two.

4. Market House Deli

This is by far the busiest and most crowded option of all in the list. However as it is located in Main Street, and we love Main Street mjau, we could not help but boost it up the list. The food options are also a lot better, you have many different sandwiches and desserts. We tried the Bruschetta, it was good but also not anything extra. Even though you have more options at Market House Deli and the quality of the sandwiches and desserts are usually really good, we do not like that you almost never find good seating. The seating outside is really nice with a good view of the Main Street and you can hear the fun background music. Unfortunately there are a lot of people that sit and smoke here, which is really disgusting, mjau! The smell of smoke could really ruin a nice meal here so we usually do not go eat here.

Having a snack at Market House Deli and enjoying the view
3. Restaurant Hakuna Matata

This restaurant has by far the best background music. As you all can tell by the name it is themed after The Lion King. Inside you can decide either the Pumba or the Timon seating area. The seating area is still basically the same, but we prefer Pumba. They also have tables outside, if you are lucky the African drummers will play or maybe you will see Jafar walk by... The food here is different from the other restaurants but still a disappointment. We had the kebab sandwich with the menu so that Grandpa could get ice cream as dessert. The food here was really bland, which is a disappointment for a restaurant that has the potential to serve African food instead. The theme of Hakuna Matata managed to land it in third place on our list. If the food was even a third as good as Thusker House at Walt Disney World we would give it the first place on our list. Mjau, just give us some corn bread and spicy food!

2. Victoria's Home Style Restaurant

This was almost in first place. However, as the restaurant is rarely open, or opens really late we had to give it second place. We have always wanted to try this place but it was always closed. This year we finally had the chance to try this restaurant, and we were not disappointed! You probably have the least options here but the sandwiches you can get here you can not get anywhere else. Our favourite is the roast beef and bacon one, it has so strong flavours and is so delicious, mjau! This restaurant is also almost empty all the time so you can really eat in privacy and we can always come out and play! The theme of the restaurant is also really nice. As it is located at the end of the Main Street you have a nice view of the castle. The exterior and interior is also designed in the same style as the rest of Main Street. As previously mentioned, we love Main Street! The interior is so small and cozy, it is almost like being at your grandmas house! We would really like to give this place first place, but we had to give the first place to another restaurant due to its availability.

We love the decor at Victoria's, mjau! The sandwiches are so delicious!

The exterior of Victoria's Home Style Restaurant is so pretty!
1. Colonel Hathis Pizza Outpost

Colonel Hathis Pizza Outpost also has one of the best themes. The theme is a mix of the Jungle Cruise ride and the Tiki Room at Walt Disney World and Disneyland, a nd as Disneyland Paris has neither rides we love to come here to get our fill, mjau! This restaurant really feels like Walt Disney, with animatronic tiki birds and so much attention to the details of the decorations inside. As the name suggests this restaurant is supposed to be Jungle Book themed. The background music is the instrumental soundtrack of The Jungle Book that we really like and is also really fitting to the rest of the theme. The only other Jungle Book detail you can see is the elephant on the sign outside. It feels like the theme was supposed to be Jungle Cruise themed but as Europeans might not be familiar with this they added the Jungle Book theme. The menu here is the same as Pizzeria Bella Notte. It might seem strange as Bella Notte was at the bottom of our list, but in a Disney park the theme is everything, mjau! The pizza here is delicious and it is even star shaped, mjau! You can even get a Mickey shaped pizza! This is definitely what we expect from Disney! If you sit inside you can find a comfortable booth with a view of the tiki birds, maybe Rosita came here. Outside you have a really nice view of the Robinson's Tree House. If you squint you can pretend to be at Animal Kingdom. It is a really big restaurant so even if there are a lot of people you still feel pretty relaxed.

Having lunch at Hathi's. Grandpa is already starting on the ice cream, mjau!

It was really difficult to decide between the second and first place. Both restaurants have similarly good food options. They both also have that Walt Disney feel to the design that can be difficult to replicate. However due to Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost being more likely to be available and have good seating even on the busiest of days Colonel Hathi's took the crown.

Bonus: Cafe Fantasia

One of our favourite places are Cafe Fantasia. Cafe Fantasia is so classy and relaxing. We almost never see any children here, at least no screaming ones. The service is really good and we get candy from the waitresses after our butlers pay the bill. The food and drinks are really good here and the atmosphere is so nice for us cute little Siamese cats. They have a pianist that plays Disney songs on the piano. The only downside is that if you take a seat outside the area it smells like foie gras, not good, mjau! We always stay in the cafe by a window so we can see the garden outside and just relax and play around.
The delicious dessert platter with hot chocolate and whipped cream at Cafe Fantasia!

The salmon sandwich is really nice, although strange looking. The salad could be better, but we guess this is a gourmet salad according to the French.

Snacks at Disneyland Paris

One of our favourite things to do in the Disney parks is eating. Walt Disney World has so many good and unique snacks to eat that it is almost a struggle to manage trying all of them. Disneyland Paris is a different story. You would think Disneyland Paris, being in France, would have many delicious pastries and snacks. Unfortunately that is not the case, mjau! At all the different snack bars and shops you always find the same things. Croissants, generic muffins, tiny brownies and cookies that pale in comparison to the luscious cookies at Walt Disney World. Even the apples are completely inadequate to the apples in the US Disney Parks. Long gone are the cute character apples covered in caramel and chocolate with marshmallow Mickey ears. The apples in Disneyland Paris are basically a red apple on a stick, mjau!
Finding good snacks is not always easy. We tried asking the Dormouse for advise but his friends are crazy, mjau!

The quick service restaurants only offer basic options and the quick service restaurants you expect to offer unique snacks are disappointing. We are looking at you Cafe De La Brousse, mjau! We had a sandwich falafel which looked promising. however there was no sauce so the food was dry and the overall flavour was lacking.
Grandpa was disappointed with the falafel sandwich, our butler bought him ice cream after as consolation.

Forest of Enchantment Cupcake
The only place you can really find visually stunning snacks that are unique from the rest of the options in the park is at The Chaparral Theater. There you can find cupcakes inspired by the current show. We ate a cupcake there after watching the Forest of Enchantment show at the theater. The cupcake was cute and tasted average. It is no Sprinkles Cupcakes, mjau!

Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour is our favourite place to buy ice cream at Disneyland Paris!
The saving grace of snacking in Disneyland Paris is Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour! They offer different Ben & Jerry Ice Cream flavours and even some really delicious toppings, like Daim crunch. Grandpa loves ice cream so we usually have our butler get us some ice cream and go sit on a park bench at Central Plaza. It is a good way for us to rest our paws while Grandpa is enjoying some ice cream.
Grandpa loves ice cream, mjau!

The poor snacking options at Disneyland Paris also extends to Quick Service and Counter Service restaurants. You can basically find the same options in different restaurants. For example Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpost has the same menu as Pizzeria Bella Notte. We have not yet had the time to try all the restaurants but we have tried a few. When choosing the restaurant we suggest going by theming and atmosphere as the food is basically on the same level of quality. In the following post we will rank our favourite Counter Service Restaurants at Disneyland Paris. The list will not include restaurants at Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disney Village (mjau, sorry Earl of Sandwich!).

You can just see our disappointment on our cute faces. The falafel was not as good as we had hoped for, mjau!

Tokyo Disney Resort 2023 May

Our butler had never visited Tokyo Disneyland before so we decided to drag our butler out of their cave and generously treat them to a week ...
